Logline: Who has the final say when it comes to morality? Curt Garrish believes his twisted view on life trumps even God’s guiding light.
About: This story was originally written by Stephen King during college and later updated for his book Skeleton Crew. The story follows one, Curt Garrish, who is unstable and troubled, yet seems like your average college kid. Okay, he’s a little more than average. Straight A’s every semester has placed him on a level above his peers.
On the last day of the semester, Curt seems a bit unusual. He goes about his day as any other college student would, but something changes once he enters his room. He finds something at the bottom of his drawer that brings him guidance. His father was a Methodist minister and through Curt’s twisted interpretation of the bible, we see some psychological damage caused by religion. Curt, however doesn’t see anything wrong at all. He pulls a large riffle from his drawer and believes that he must rid the world of the immoral people god has let live for too long.
This is an interesting look into school shootings, religion, and moral theory. Who is right? Can anyone know that they are acting out God’s hidden wishes? Is there justification for horrible acts such as these? All questions that have been festering in the minds of people from the beginning of time. Curt, on the other hand, believes he does know the answer to these questions, and through this short film we see his complete way of life.
